Bens suffer their biggest defeat

Old Bens Football Club’s first XI experienced a second successive defeat on their travels in the ELFA Super League, on Saturday, August 15.

Coach Raymond Cloete’s team knew they would be in for a tough day at the office against the top side in the league.

With a number of first team regulars missing through injury and suspensions, plus a poor pre-game preparation due to players arriving late, Cloete’s men were always going to have a difficult time.

Randburg opened the scoring in the first minute of the game and doubled their advantage just before the halftime break.

Old Bens put on a better performance in the second half, but failed to convert numerous chances.

Two defensive errors led to two more goals for the table-toppers and the 4-0 score line made it Bens’ biggest defeat of the season.

“We are hoping to get back a few more of our players for the remainder of the season and we will have to go straight back to basics again,” said Cloete.

With just six games left to play in the ELFA Super League the team will be looking to rediscover the strong mid-season form that they previously showed.

This week they will play a third consecutive match away from home, when they take on Union.
