Clark goes Platinum

Benonian Alan Clark has reunited with coach Cavin Johnson, at the Rustenburg-based Platinum Stars Football Club.

He has been appointed in a split role, as a performance analyst for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) team, as well as the head coach of the academy.

The former school teacher has previously worked with Johnson at Stars (when the team enjoyed a highly successful campaign, finishing as PSL runners-up in 2012) and at SuperSport United.

Clark also has experience in the Bafana Bafana set-up, having worked under Pitso Mosimane.

As a technical analyst for Johnson, he strives to ensure that the team runs as efficiently as possible in line with the coach’s football philosophy.

He will bring this same philosophical approach to the academy (where he deals with players from as young as 15 years old right up to the Multichoice Diski Challenge, the PSL’s reserve league).

“We have some quality players in the set-up and are focusing on getting the structure right,” said Clark.

“Platinum Stars is one of the only community-based teams in the PSL and it is important that we grow the brand in the community and leave a lasting legacy.”

Of his strong relationship with Johnson, Clark commented: “He is someone who I will always trust in football.

“He is honest and true to the game and really values all the people around him.”

When asked what Stars’ chances are in the 2015/2016 version of the PSL, he replied: “A lot of people don’t have us on their radar, but with Cavin’s brand of football anything is possible.”

Clark has since relocated to Rustenburg with his family, but visits Benoni almost every weekend.
