Headed goal forces draw

Old Bens Football Club’s first XI returned from a bye fixture, last weekend, with an ELFA Super League clash against Olympia, at Currin Park, on Saturday, August 1.

The first half was a goalless affair, with both teams probing and feeling each other out and both goalkeepers kept fairly quiet.

It was Old Bens who would take the lead from Ludick Malele.

He found the back of the net from a well-placed cross from Sonnyboy Mkwanazi, who made a fantastic run down the line before delivering the assist.

From that point on the match became scrappy, with a number of fouls from both sides.

The Benoni outfit would let their lead slip from a headed effort, from a corner kick that equalised the score for Olympia.

Bens’ shot-stopper, Brandon Senneck, made some telling saves towards the end of the encounter, to ensure an extremely valuable point for coach Raymond Cloete’s side, in the final scheme of things in the Super League.

The team’s next three league fixtures will be on the road, starting with a trip to Sporting, on Saturday, August 8.
