Cup final euphoria in Actonville

The Benoni South Local Football Association (BSLFA) senior season came to a conclusion on Sunday, July 19.

It ended with the annual BSLFA Cup final days, where four teams battled it out to be crowned Cup champions.

In the First Division Cup Final, PSG and Lovers FC battled it out for honours, with PSG winning 2-1 through a come- from-behind performance.

In the main game, the BSLFA Super Cup final, SCB Independiente and FC Lin Coco squared up in an extremely entertaining match, in front of a packed crowd at Actonville Stadium.

The final was even more special for these two teams, as they met in the 2013 final, which was won 3-1 by SCB Independiente, which set up an interesting rematch.

The first half was a tight affair, with both teams sparring and creating small chances.

Against the run of play, FC Lin Coco came to life and sprung the SCB Independiente defence with a long ball that resulted in a fabulous volleyed goal, to give them the lead going into half time.

The second half saw a changed and determined SCB Independiente team coming out with all guns blazing.

They equalised with a stunning header from Roger Themba, after a short corner from the right, and followed that up with another Roger Themba stunner from outside the box, that had the net shuddering and the crowd jumping.

SCB Independiente then rounded off proceedings with their third goal, with five minutes to go. This was a well worked goal that was created from sharp interplay on the left.

A cross from Phumulani Dlongolo was converted by centre forward Joel Owesu.

The 2014/2015 season has been an excellent one for SCB Independiente.

The u-15 team won the BSLFA U-15 League, and followed this up with an excellent win in the 2015 Reiger Park Easter Cup Tournament.

Along with the BSLFA Super Cup win, the first team were runners-up in the Laudium LFA Kick-off Tournament, as well as third place finishers in the BSLFA 2014/15 league season.

At the end of season award’s ceremony, long-serving club captain Rashaad Patel, along with Charley Nyelethi, were rewarded for 10 years’ service to the club.

Taaibos Nkosi scooped the Top Goal-scorer Award, for scoring 16 goals in 30 games played, while David “Tema” Mookane won the Player of the Year Award and Roger Themba the Young Player of the Year Award.
