Clean sheets all round for BNFC

Benoni Northerns Football Club’s (BNFC) first and reserve team goalkeepers, Rowen Viljoen and Stefano di Bartolomeo, were both kept relatively quiet in their respective home encounters with Corinthians, on Saturday, July 25.

The first team enjoyed a morale-boosting 3-0 win over their opponents in the ELFA Super League, while the reserves (a team mostly filled with young players) overcame their visitors by a score of 4-0 in the ELFA Super League Reserves.

Northerns coach Jannie van den Berg was delighted with the performance from both teams.

Speaking on the first team result the Northerns coach said: “We created good chances and took our opportunities well.

“We are trying to maintain and keep up the consistency going into the final weeks of the season.

“We are hoping to start a winning run now.”

The first team was, at the time of going to press, scheduled to play an ELFA Cup match against Bedfordview Country Club (BCC), on the night of Wednesday, July 29, at home.

The team’s next league fixture will be played away from home, against Edenvale, on Saturday, August 1.

Veteran Benoni Northerns Football Club defender Darren Lee was an experienced head in the young Northerns second team’s defence, in their match against Corinthians.
