Young Niclas brings home a trophy

A group of South Africans drove up to Desert Raceway in Walvis Bay, Namibia for the inaugural South Africa versus Namibia Dirt Oval Race.

The race took place over two days and the drivers participated in various classes.

The Schwartz family from Benoni, Clive “Blackie” Schwartz, his wife Natasha and their son Niclas (13), travelled to the neighbouring country as part of the South African contingent.

The family is a part of the Bauntu Vegetation Racing Team which competed in the Standard Midget class.

Natasha experienced various mechanical and electrical problems on her midget, but her team manager and sponsor, the Namibians, Clive and Willem Burger had her racing again.

She performed well despite not being able to take part in all the races.

Clive also had a mechanical problem with a broken shock, but was able to race with it.

Despite their setbacks Clive placed fifth overall, Natasha fourth and Niclas achieved a brilliant second overall.

Niclas was one of three South Africans who managed to bring home a trophy.
