Every day a learning curve for Ebersohn

Benoni baseball player Rowan Ebersohn (19) is loving life playing for the Gulf Coast League Twins, the Rookie Level Minor League Baseball affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, in Fort Myers, Florida, in the USA.

Ebersohn, the pride of the Benoni Northerns Indians Ball Club, told the City Times that the experience he has had in the USA has “been amazing so far”.

“It’s even better than I expected,” he said.

“I am just glad that all the hard work that I have put in over the years has finally led me to my dream.

“We have just finished something called extended spring training, where we train and play warm-up games every day, against other organisations.

“I have really had to step up my game to compete with the tough level here.

“These guys are seriously good,” the former Benoni High School pupil added.

“We face pitchers who are throwing as fast as 91 to 100mph.

“It is definitely something that takes getting used to, but I have gained a different perspective of the game and how it works.”

Ebersohn said that he learns something new on a daily basis.

“When I put on that jersey and get to work everything just feels right.”

He added that he has learned how to react to a 95mph fastball and how to respond when a pitcher throws a sneaky change-up down in the dirt.

Asked what his highlight has been so far he replied: “My best moment is definitely getting my first professional base hit, which is always something special.

“Actually, every moment here feels like the best moment,” he added.
