Benoni bullies Elsburg
Benoni Rugby Club’s first XV took on Elsburg at their home-base at Hoërskool Hans Moore on Saturday, June 27, in the Valke Merlin League.
Despite suffering a few injuries to players, the team still outplayed their opponent with a large score line of 59-8.
The Benoni outfit scored nine tries to Elsburg’s one, with flanker Arno Fourie bagging a hat trick of five-pointers.
He also put in an excellent all round performance.
Benoni captain Dirk Bloem also chipped in with two tries of his own, while fullback Ruan du Plessis had a sterling match and combined well with the backline.
He was named the Man-of-the-Match for his display.
Number 10, Marius Bezuidenhout, also enjoyed a good day on the park as he converted seven of his team’s nine tries.
Try scorers on Saturday were Fourie (three), Bloem (two), Willie de Ridder, Morne Venter and Ruan du Plessis. The league breaks for a week before the team play two consecutive fixtures against Reiger Park-based East Rand United.
