Old Bens overcome Corinthians

Old Bens Football Club’s first XI bounced back from their 3-2 Benoni Derby defeat against Benoni Northerns, last week, to pick up the full three points at home to Corinthians, on Saturday, June 6.

A first-half strike by Jethson Cloete from the penalty spot, about 20 minutes in, after striker Bilal Mohammed was brought down in the box, was enough to give the Benoni outfit a 1-0 win that keeps them in mid-table in the ELFA Super League.

The win was a particularly good one for coach Raymond Cloete, as a number of first team regulars were absent on the day.

The coach was required to call up a number of second team youngsters.

“I am happy with the result, we were all over them in the game,” said the coach.

“The youngsters did their job and worked hard.”

Meanwhile, the club’s second XI were also winners on Saturday.

The team enjoyed a 3-0 victory over Corinthians.
