Winning streak comes to an end

A winning run which stretched over six matches came to an end for Benoni Northerns Football Club’s (BNFC) first XI on Saturday, May 2.

The team, who found themselves in first place on the ELFA Super League log this week, welcomed the always strong Highlands Park to Northerns and suffered a 3-1 defeat.

“We unfortunately went down to an extremely good side,” said BNFC coach Jannie van den Berg.

“We prepared well with the players we had at our disposal and held our own right up until the score line was 2-1 to them, but in the last 10 minutes they made three changes of quality players and managed to sneak a third past us that put us out of the game.”

Northerns’ only goal of the encounter was scored from the penalty spot by Skyeler van den Berg.

“We were outplayed, there are no excuses,” added the coach.

He will be aiming to make things right on Saturday, May 9, when the team travels to Kempton Park.
