‘Wake Boss’ does it again

Benoni’s own “wake boss”, Matti Buys, continued his winning ways at the second stop of the South African Wakeskate Tour "Puppet Masters", held over the Freedom Day weekend.

The stop took place at La Mercy Lagoon, on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast, and made for some highly entertaining wakeskating.

“The set-up of the course was one of the most fun ones that I have ridden with a drop to start off and a decline rail in the middle of the course, accompanied by an incline at the end of the run,” said Buys.

“This made the trick possibilities amazing and one of the best runs I have had on a South African set-up.”

After making it through the three-man qualifying heats, Buys rode in a six-man super final that consisted of riders from Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.

The wakeskaters were given an hour to land the best two-trick line.

“I was lucky enough to get a solid line early on in the heat, and then come back again with another good line towards the end to win the stop,” added Buys.

This victory means that the Benonian is now with 300 points ahead of Darren Turner, Kaylib Louw and Jaques Labuschagne in the overall standings. They are all tied in second, on 200 points.

Buys also claimed number one spot at the first stop, in Midrand, on March 21.
