Preparations for the upcoming Valke Merlin League competition are almost complete for Benoni Rugby Club.

The club’s second and first sides welcomed Bronkhorstspruit to Benoni on Saturday, March 14.

The second team got proceedings underway and came up against a tough Bronkhorstspruit XV, a team that meant business from the start by continually putting intense pressure on Benoni.

The hosts were in the game until the very end, but the visitors would go over the Benoni try line close to fulltime to clinch the game 14-5.

The second team’s sole try was scored by Morne Venter.

In the first team encounter it was Jacques Dorfling (two tries), Dirk Bloem, Freddie Welman and Marius Bezuidenhout who dotted down for Benoni in a dominant 31-14 display.

Bezuidenhout also slotted three conversions in the win.

On Friday night, March 20, Benoni will again play at home, this time against Boksburg, in one of their final preparation matches before the league kicks off in April.
