Mixed bag for Indians

Benoni Northerns Indians Ball Club’s Major A baseball team played a double-header of fixtures in the Summer Ball League, on Sunday, March 8, in Boksburg.

The team experienced a mixed bag of results on Sunday, with a win and loss in their respective clashes against Marks Park Mustangs 1 and Edenvale Giants 1.

In the game against Mustangs, everything seemed to go swimmingly for Indians as they cruised to a 10-3 victory.

“We hit the ball well, threw well and had a good start that set us up nicely,” said head coach Ashley Scott.

Things started well for Indians in their second match of the day, against Giants, and at one stage they were 5-1 up, however, the Edenvale outfit had managed to claw their way back into the game and, by the penultimate innings, they had squared things up at 8-8.

Indians ran out of steam and pitchers and tiredly surrendered 10 runs in the final innings, to see Giants win by a scoreline of 18-8.

Although the Giants game was disappointing, the Benoni baseball players are still in contention for the league title, having lost just three games this season.
