Festival of hockey to open EGHA Astro

The official opening of the Eastern Gauteng Hockey Association (EGHA) AstroTurf will take place on Saturday, March 7.

The EGHA Astro, the first artificial surface hockey pitch in the region, has been a long-awaited dream of hockey lovers throughout Ekurhuleni and the impact it is expected to make on the growth and development of the sport cannot be measured.

The opening will take place from 1.30pm to 5.30pm and members of the general public are welcome to bring their chairs and attend this festival of local hockey.

Following a ribbon cutting, 20-minute schoolboy and schoolgirl hockey matches will take place on the turf, followed by master men’s, master women’s, provincial men’s and provincial women’s matches.

The Astro pitch is situated at the corner of Brodigan and Hanekam streets.
