Rugby club preparing for new season

Benoni Rugby Club is in full swing with training for the new season.

The club will once again play in the Valke Rugby Union’s Merlin League and they are looking forward to the new campaign.

According to Steve Myburgh, club public relations officer, Benoni Rugby Club will field two senior teams this year (first and second team) and is also looking to field an u-21 side.

“We would like to call on junior players in Benoni (from 19 to 21 years old) to join the club this year,” he said.

The club trains on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm

League opponents this year will be Elsburg, Kempton Park, Nigel, Sasolburg and the Vaal University of Technology (VUT).

The Valke Merlin League kicks off on Saturday, April 11, with a home game against Elsburg, but is expected to play friendlies versus Sasol Secunda and Middelburg at home, with dates still to be confirmed.

“We will once again play at Delmas in their annual Rugby Day on Saturday, February 28.
