No Nepal versus Northerns

Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s (BNCC) Facebook page experienced a surge in likes from curious and passionate Nepalese cricket fans last week, much to the confusion of the page’s administrators.

This came after miscommunication on social media platforms which informed cricket fans from the landlocked South Asian country, that their national team was due to play against Benoni Northerns on Friday, January 9, during their warm-up tour of South Africa ahead of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) 2015 ICC World Cricket League Division Two divisional tournament to be held in Namibia from January 17 to January 24.

The developmental tournament forms part of the ICC World Cricket League and is a qualification pathway for the ICC World Cup 2019.

All misinformation was quickly cleared up by BNCC as it was soon discovered the Nepal team was indeed in Benoni on Friday and would play against an Easterns Academy XI at Willowmoore Park – a match which they lost.

They also played a Mpumulanga Cricket Union team in their second warm-up match at Willowmoore Park on Sunday, which they won by three wickets.
