Young equestrians excel

Young riders achieve at awards evening.

The young equestrians from Labyrinth Stables, in Fairleads, excelled at the recent SANESA awards evenings.

The awards, for both primary and high school students, honour the riders who have made their mark during the year, representing their various schools at SANESA qualifiers.

The following three young riders won awards in the primary school category:

  • Kyla Holzapfel, riding Chinuk:

Holzapfel did extremely well, getting the second highest points score of all the riders in the whole of Ekurhuleni primary schools. For this she earned herself a Top 10 trophy, as well as a trophy for highest score pony/rider combination, a certificate of merit, fourth place for her school, Rynfield Primary, in its category (she was the top points-scorer in her school) and two victrix ludorum awards, one for equitation and one for working hunter.

n Francois Blignaut, riding Topaz and Labyrinth Silverbow:

The Laerskool Rynfield pupil earned the fifth place trophy for his school in its category (he was the top points- scorer in his school). He also walked away with a Top 10 position for the highest score pony/rider combination, as well as a certificate of merit.

  • Gabrielle Hart, riding Roxy:

Hart represented Ashton International Junior College and walked away with a Top Five award (she took third position) for the highest score pony/rider combination, as well as a certificate of merit.

The following riders won awards in the high school category:

  • Yolani Robbetze, riding Labyrinth Jorga:

Robbetze walked away with a Top 10 position and a trophy for highest score pony/rider combination.

She won the fourth placed trophy for her school, Hoërskool Brandwag, in its category (she was the top points-scorer in her school), as well as a victrix ludorum award for showjumping and was awarded a certificate of merit.

  • Nikita Gerber, riding Legacy:

The Hoërskool Hans Moore scholar won the first place trophy for her school in its category, as she was the top point achiever in her school.

She was also placed in the Top 10 for rider/horse combination and won a trophy for the highest score horse/rider combination.

Gerber also won a certificate of merit.

  • Doné Botes, riding Amarock, Quorum and Gracious Melody:

Botes won a certificate of merit.

All the riders from Level One up achieved Ekurhuleni colours and all the riders qualified to take part in SANESA Nationals, at the beginning of October.

Trainer and owner of Labyrinth Stables Desireé Miller said: “These young riders have made me very proud.

“We are now hard at work preparing for nationals.”
