High velocities at weekend races

This week's races took place from Britstown.

The Benoni Homing Society (BHS) basketed their birds for the 23rd and 24th races of the season and the last of the young bird races at the weekend.

The race took place from Britstown, about 680km away.

The young birds were liberated at 7.15am and the old birds went up at 8am.

There was a strong north-westerly wind pushing the birds home, which resulted in high velocities.

RA Gullet’s young bird was the first home, clocking in at 2.12.44pm, at a velocity of 1 606.720mpm, one minute and 26 seconds ahead of the next bird.

The first old bird home was for VD Merwes, clocking at 2.57.18pm at a velocity of 1 635.630mpm, and a massive 17 minutes and 10 seconds ahead of the next bird.

This secured their fourth straight win and a fifth in total for the season.
