T20 competition kicks off cricket season

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club is preparing for the 2014/2015 cricket season, starting with the club’s open day for junior and senior registration, on Sunday, August 10, at Lords Cricket Ground, in Actonville.

The club also launches the ASPL T20 competition this weekend, August 9 and 10, with teams from around Ekurhuleni, Fordsburg and Lenasia taking part.

A total of 10 teams will be divided into groups of five to contest the curtain-raiser to what the club hopes will be a memorable campaign.

With names like Lenz Lions, Al-Fatah and Monstar in action the tournament promises to deliver some big hits.

The club has also appointed Seun Beya as the new head coach.

He is the head coach of the Eastern Cricket Union’s women’s team and played for Actonville Spurs in the late 90s’, with the Premier League team.

The club has also upgraded the lighting and net facilities, which will ensure that some teams have the option of night training sessions, while the club’s tuck-shop will also be fully operational for the home games.

The council and the club have also begun work on improvements to the clubhouse.
