Two points now separate the Benoni Rugby Club and Kempton Wolwe Rugby Club first teams, after last weekend’s encounter at Hoërskool Hans Moore.

The Wolwe knocked the Benoni club off the top of the Merlin League after a 25-22 victory, on Saturday.

Kempton Park are now on 19 points, with Benoni two points behind.

The visiting side came out strongly in the match, with two tries in the opening 20 minutes.

The home team were intent on getting the score board ticking and did so, just before the half time whistle, when eighth man Jacques Dorfling crossed the try line for the Benoni Rugby Club.

Flyhalf Mornay Rossouw added a penalty before the break and sent the home side to a half time score of 8 – 17.

The Wolwe came out with purpose in the second half and continued their try-scoring.

Benoni did not, however, sit back, and came back strongly towards the end of the game.

The home side closed the 17-point deficit with two tintelating tries by captain Frans-Louis van Greunen and scrum half Quin van der Nest.

Fly half Mornay Rossouw added the extras, but it was not enough to beat Kempton at the death.

Dorfling was named Man of the Match.

The Benoni Rugby Club have three games left in the season before the knock out stages.
