The Gauteng Open, a flagship tournament hosted by Gauteng Bowls, is about competition and fun.
The tournament programme started recently and the Fours Championship was held on Saturday, July 5, at Benoni Lake Club, which has hosted a few of the games.
One of the organisers, Mike Blackstock, said: “Bowls is a fantastic sport that can be played by able people, people with disabilities, young people and old people, who can all participate on an equal level.
“However, it is a sport that follows good sportsmanship.”
The ranking system developed by sponsors Perfect Delivery will become effective at the start of the 2014/2015 season.
Their system is endorsed by Bowls SA and was designed to rank men and women separately. The system ranks players nationally and accordingly to their respective districts.
“We would like to thank our sponsors and Gauteng Bowls for affording us the opportunity to host a number of these games at our club,” said tournament official Ian Stevenson.
The finals will be held on July 13, at Edenvale Bowling Club.
