Youngsters play like the stars

Coerver Coaching SA, in association with Off the Wall Powerball, held free soccer coaching trial sessions for children, aged between six and 18, at the East Rand Italian Club, in Boksburg, on Saturday, May 17.

The session, which was part of Coerver’s Play Like the Stars Roadshow, provided two hours of technical soccer development, with professional coaches from Coerver.

“Today’s focus was teaching the kids five introductory steps, collectively known as Ball Mastery,” said former Bafana Bafana star Phil Evans, who is one of the coaches.

“Our goal is to teach children basic skills, so that they can go back to their respective clubs as better players and boost their careers.”

Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Clement Mazibuko, who worked alongside Evans in leading the coaching, echoed his counterpart’s sentiments.

“The session today is all about teaching the basics of football; basics are easily ignored by soccer players but, as time goes on in one’s career, you realise how important the basics are.”

In a lighter tone, asked about the chances of returning to the Pretoria side, who were recently crowned PSL champions in a coaching capacity, Mazibuko responded: “I would love to, I have recently acquired my coaching B-licence and it would be really nice returning to Sundowns.”

Coerver Coaching has been developing creative, game-changing players for over 30 years with its professionally trained staff, and is an acclaimed coaching curricula endorsed by FIFA.

It continues to work with the world’s leading football clubs, namely Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United, to name just a few, and is been promoted by global stars of the beautiful game, such as Arjen Robben, Daniel Surridge and Gareth Bale.
