Farrarmere’s Teegler is one to watch

Kelsey Teegler, a Farrarmere resident and pupil at Farrarmere Primary School, represented South Africa in the u-12 age group, at the 12th CANA Zone III and IV swimming competition, in Kampala, Uganda, recently.

Swimming out of the Boksburg Aquatic Saints Club, under coaches Wade and Bev Marshall, Teegler was selected based on strict Swimming South Africa selection criteria for the championships.

The swimmer, who also captains her school swimming team, competed in a total of seven events at the championships, winning gold in the 100m backstroke in a personal best time of 1.14.80, two silver medals in the 200m and 50m backstroke events, also in personal best times of 2.43.10 and 34.60 respectively, and as a member of the 4 x 50m u-14 age group relay team (based on her 50m freestyle swim at the championships), and completed her total medal haul with another gold medal, making it a total of four (two gold and two silver medals).

The overall South African team consisted of 24 swimmers selected from provinces around South Africa,

with Teegler being the only swimmer selected from Eastern Gauteng Aquatics, and the second Boksburg Aquatics Saints swimmer under Wade Marshall to have represented South Africa at CANA.

The South African team finished as runners-up to Kenya, with a total medal count of 72.
