Road to India 2016 starts at Willowmoore

Willowmoore Park will host the Pepsi ICC/Africa Division Three Tournament from Saturday, March 22, to Tuesday, March 25.

The event marks the start of the journey towards the ICC World T20, in India, in 2016.

According to Andy Hobbs, ICC development programmes manager, regional pathway events such as this are vital in helping to make cricket a bigger and better global game.

Four African nations, Rwanda, Swaziland, Sierra Leone and Gambia, will battle it out in Benoni and compete for the honour of promotion to Division Two of the tournament.

The tournament forms part of ICC-Africa’s goal to ensure that every person who aspires to play cricket in Africa is given an opportunity to do so.

Cassim Suliman, ICC/ACA regional development manager, based at Willowmoore Park, said that the event gives players an opportunity to escalate their skills and abilities to a higher level of the game.

“Such an event does not just materialise,” he said.

“It takes a huge amount of planning and preparation and, therefore, to the local organising committee of the Africa Regional Office and Eastern Cricket, I would like to say well done on hosting this event.”
