Actonville thumped by log-leaders

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s Premier XI took on the current leaders of the Eastern Cricket League, Kempton Park, at Lord’s Cricket Ground, in Actonville, on Sunday, January 26.

Skipper Theo Naidoo’s chargers have been a thorn in the side of Kempton Park in recent seasons, but the Actonville team could not pull off something special this time around and were easily defeated by the Kempton team.

The Kempton Park side have been ruthless in recent matches, as they try to retain the title they lost to Benoni Northerns last season.

Actonville lost the toss and were put in to bat by Kempton’s captain, Johan Fourie.

The Actonville batsmen were dismantled by Fourie, who achieved bowling figures of 5/24 in nine overs.

The batsmen could only set a target of 68 runs, as Kempton Park bowled them out in the 17th over.

Clayton August’s 32 runs was the highest score by an Actonville player.

It took the away team 24 overs to reach the target, with opening batsman Wesley Marshall, unbeaten on 46 not out, steering the log-leaders to victory.

Naidoo said that the Kempton Park bowlers were extremely disciplined and put the ball on the right spots.

He added that his batsmen also played some faulty shots that led to their downfall.

“With six games remaining we will need to rebuild and play well as we try finish in the middle of the table,” he said.
