Seniors set sights on a super season

Benoni Northerns Football Club’s senior football players are back in training, in preparation for the new football league season, with a number of players already working hard at Northern Areas.

First team coach Flavio Mariuzzi is very impressed with the turn-out at the senior practise sessions, with about 25 players on average attending senior training.

Senior training will continue from 9.30am on Sundays and the senior players will also practise on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6.30pm.

“I am happy to see some new faces at our training sessions and I am glad that most of our old boys from last season have returned,” Mariuzzi said.

“The numbers are looking so good that we might even be able to field another one or two senior sides in various leagues this season.”

He added that things are very positive for the side who have their sights firmly set on winning the ELFA Super League, among other tournaments.

“We are in the process of organising some pre-season friendlies and are hoping to play at least five to eight friendly matches before the season kicks off,” Mariuzzi said.

The coach added that the club are also looking to field u-17 and u-19 sides this season, and encouraged players who fall in those age groups to attend training.
