The seminar saw coaches and teachers who are registered with the KFC Mini Cricket programme in attendance, and focused on the theme “Back to Basics”.
David Mokopanele, Cricket South Africa’s mini cricket coordinator, addressed the attendees and said that the focus of the programme this year is not just about ensuring growth in the number of children playing mini cricket, but ensuring that they can perform the basics of the game properly.
“Let us not only give children opportunities but make sure that they are given quality opportunities,” he said.
He added that 15 per cent of the children in the programme cannot properly execute the basic fundamentals of the game,adding that it was important to consolidate rather than just concentrating on growth.
The coaches were given the opportunity to compete amongst each other on the main oval at Willowmoore Park and work on the basics of the game.
