Edwards wins chilly Fountains Cycle Race

The cold and windy conditions on the morning of Saturday, August 31, did not deter a large number of cyclists from taking on the 2013 Fountains Cycle Race.

The race, which is in its 14th year, is presented by the Gereformeerde Kerk Benoni and attracted a large number of cyclists who were keen to take on the 60km and 105km challenge.

There was also a 25km and 40km mountain bike race.

Dean Edwards of Cycle Lab Super Cycling Club claimed first place in the men’s 105km and completed the race in a time of 2:39:30.

Lynette Burger, also of Cycle Lab Super Cycling Club, claimed first place in the women’s 105km race.

The results from the race are:

  • Men’s 105km: 1 Dean Edwards, Cycle Lab Super Cycling Club, 2:39:30, 2 Myles Van Musschenbroek, Cycle Lab Super Cycling Club, 2:39:30. 3 Ian Pienaar, Team Computer Smith, 2:41:55.
  • Women’s 105km: 1 Lynette Burger, Cycle Lab Super Cycling Club, 2:57:59, 2 Leandri Du Toit, Everest Wheelers, 2:57:59, 3 Linda Van Den Biggelaar, Team Mecer, 3:04:18.
