On November 20, I emailed the municipal offices requesting they clear their property of trees, weeds and Kikuyu grass that is undermining the road surfaces and which has already caused a deep pothole.

As our property is bordered on three sides by three different roads, the area referred to is quite extensive, approximately 245m in length and some areas three metres wide.

I received an email response with reference numbers. I was advised that queries have been lodged on the City’s eMIS system with relevant departments to attend to the matters raised.

That was the last communication received despite numerous emails requesting a response. The last one was sent on January 15.

The rates above R2 000 per month charged by Ekurhuleni (which excludes electricity, water, sewerage and refuse removal) should surely entitle us as ratepayers to expect the municipality to keep their property in an acceptable state.

Editor’s note:

Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the pothole reference (4477758) is scheduled to be fixed on February 22, while the enquiry regarding the grass (4477770) is awaiting scheduling for the date of cutting.
