Bruce King, chairperson of ELFA, said:

It has been brought to our attention that certain clubs have intentions of starting to train next week.

All training is suspended until further notice and any club found to be training or allows their facilities to be used by private institutions will be issued with a fine of R10 000.

See below, which is an extract from the government gazette.

Still closed/not allowed:

• Gyms/fitness centres.

• Sports grounds and fields, swimming pools (except for training of professional athletes).

• Fetes and bazaars.

• Night clubs.

• Non-business conference centres.

• Any on-consumption premises, including bars, shebeens and taverns. They can still sell liquor in sealed containers for people to consume at home.

• Beaches and public parks.

• Short-term home-sharing, letting, rental for leisure purposes (i.e. Airbnb).

• Domestic air travel for leisure purposes.
