Peaceful walk marred by leashless dog

A lot of the walkers are getting on in age, and I do believe that some of these people would not have come off as lucky as me.

84-year-old Theo writes:

We are a group of people who regularly walk around Korsman Sanctuary, in Westdene, in the evenings.

I have a pet Jack Russel that I take with me on a lead, as do a lot of people who own dogs.

However, Monday’s walk (March 4) turned into a nightmare for me when a pit bull terrier without leash and collar stormed into my pet and gripped her across her back, causing three punctures into her sides and tummy.

It took an effort to get the Jack Russel released after I managed a kick into the pit bull’s middle.

The result was I have hurt my back.

Having taken my dog to the vet, I ended up with a bill of R595.

My major concern is what if the pit bull had attacked a child or another elderly person?
