Hyacinth problem can be solved

Erwin Bahlmann writes:

I believe this hyacinth problem in our Benoni lakes is a huge income opportunity for many poor people.

I know the plant makes very good compost and very good earthworm farms.

It will take about three months to be ready to be bagged.

I’m sure any keen gardener will buy it if it is available.

So come on entrepreneurs, what are you waiting for.

I am sure Ekurhuleni will save money to provide support to get something going.

Secondly, if the hyacinth is under control, it will help to filter out the sewage that flows constantly into our dams.

Pesticides I think are not the solution.

It just sinks to the bottom of the dam and rot there.

That creates an oxygen problem for the fish.

I saw years ago that farmers hired front-end loaders and tipper trucks to harvest mountains of compost at Hartebeespoortdam.

Kind Regards
