LETTER: Racism is still deeply rooted in us

Racism must end now.

Farouk Araie of Actonville writes:

Judgement in the Vicki Momberg case graphically illustrates that racism is still rearing its ugly head in rainbow nation South Africa.

We have come so far, and yet it seems our journey in defeating racism is far from over as our nation still has to deal with the malignant cancer that is eating away at the very fabric of society.

Any free-thinking man or woman can clearly distinguish between right and wrong, and our very conscience tells us deep down inside that there are many who hold racism in their hearts.

It surrounds us overtly and covertly; it is inconspicuous and passive and terribly destructive to those targeted by it.

Racism kills thousands of people each year and makes the lives of many miserable and desperate.

Racism is not dead in South Africa and the struggle for equality in the job market will continue to be an uphill battle for the masses and the exploited.

LETTER: Beggars need an intervention

The only true way to separate and navigate oneself away from the drowning pool of racism would be to continuously move away from all of those people – regardless of race or politics – who participate in such vile acts.

If our rainbow nation is to move past the ills of prejudice and bigotry, it will take courage under fire to realise that we are all part of this beloved land.

Our rainbow nation’s rainbow is swamped red with the blood of hatred that is being displayed by all racial groups.

Let us take time to respect one another.
