LETTER: Go to this Northmead site for some upliftment

His children enjoy it, too.

James Klein writes:

I’m writing to highlight my regular and overwhelmingly positive interactions at the Northmead Mini Garden Disposal Site, in Hospital Road, Northmead.

There is a hidden light in Benoni in this age of car guards at every shopping centre offering to watch our cars in exchange for tips for a job not done, not asked for and not wanted.

Young boys with glassy eyes kneeling at the traffic lights and mouthing inaudible words with their hands making movements indicating “feed me”, stooping to new lows by lying almost in the middle of the street, seemingly wanting to be hit by a car because the motorist doesn’t see them.

The fake beggar pretending to have a body disfigurement during the day to aid his begging, but can be seen walking upright to the station at the end of his day.

LETTER: Metro asks you to record details

There are the men and women at the disposal site who give broad smiles and band together to empty your car of rubbish in just a few seconds. They are always so eager to help and they never ask for anything.

It’s actually a joyful experience to go to the dump, and my kids think so, too.

Who would have thought?
