LETTER: Benoni is not a happy sight after 12 years

Many road markings have faded.

W Lange of Northmead writes:

We recently returned to Benoni after 12 years and one of the things we immediately noticed was the poor conditions of many of the roads.

Adding to Cheryl Potgieter’s letter about poor markings of a pedestrian crossing, we noticed that most pedestrian crossings, traffic calming humps and general markings of roads in and around Benoni are very poorly marked with the paint having faded years ago.

I think our municipality really needs to put in some extra effort to repaint our many faded or non-existing road markings.

I also wonder why one needs to commend the municipality for work done on roads. Surely this is work they are paid for?

LETTER: Rock thrown at my window near Bunny Park

Should anyone go out of their way to do their job more efficiently or expediently, I think it’s fine to mention it, but surely not for attending to a query as part of their daily workload. (Reference to Jan Jordan and Carolyn Dobbin’s letters.)

We noticed, with the recent number of water pipe bursts and problems associated with the water tower in Farrar Street, that several of the culverts are completely blocked with earth originating from the pavement diggings done for new pipes and cables.

The result is water continues to accumulate and run down the road creating large puddles.

In places it runs down driveways into the gardens of people.

One culvert on the corner of Farrar Street and Aerodrome Drive is totally filled to the top.

Similarly, a number of culverts in both Farrar Street and Aerodrome Drive opposite the school sports ground are choked with earth.

We appeal to our Ekurhuleni municipality to attend to these problems.
