Is this the same change you want to see in Benoni?

As we approached the new year and made New Year's resolutions, the City Times asked our Facebook users on January 11 about the kind of changes they would like to see in Benoni.

The Facebook post received about 50 comments.

Here are some of the comments:

• Maria Muller: Clear the streets of drug dealers.

• Anthony France: A four-way stop on the corner of Fourth Street and 11th Avenue in Northmead.

• Cheryl Potgieter: Paint all pedestrian crossings so that they can be seen – especially at schools.

• Wendy Lewis: A clean Benoni with law enforcement because the CBD is disgusting and the taxi drivers are lawless.

• Henry Vorster: I think a circle needs to go up by the Farrarmere Square entrance.

• Gillian Goodchild-Brown: A traffic circle at the entrance of Northmead Square, covered parking and removal of that ridiculous island that has caused too many minor accidents.

• Louella Humphrey: I would like the city to fix up the town hall. It has been left unmaintained for years.

• Saloshnee Reddy: Speed bumps on Princess and Ampthill avenues because the stretch from Kimbolton to Harrison streets have huge potential for a freak accident.

• Tony De Villiers: Would be nice if there could be safe and reliable municipal transport in and around Boksburg and Benoni.

• Nellie Van Rensburg: I would like to see all departments deal with complaints that have been received by phone at the call centre.

• Elzette Saaiman: Besides a total, permanent, irrevocable ban of fireworks, a complete redo and widening of the plot roads would be an awesome blessing.

• Monique Naude: Clean up that mess of a town, it used to be the jewel of the East Rand.

• Cheryl Bailey: Speed bumps on Vlei Road please; already one accident their last year where a kid lost his/her life and it won’t stop.

• Tania De Kroon Burdett: Benoni Northerns Swimming Pool toilets/bathrooms need a serious clean and fix up.

Also, ban fireworks.

• Bridgie Thysse: Upgrade of toilets at Homestead Dam.

• Gail Morrison: Re-paint the municipal swimming pool walls; ban all fireworks; keep the Ekurhuleni and SASSA offices clean and ban all beggars.

• Michelle Mich Andrews: If we can also include God in our town and have a prayer group for Benoni, changes will happen.

• Michele Klemp: Proper law enforcement, including visible policing, to enforce by-laws and all the country’s laws.

• Wanda Gray: Strict laws imposed and stiff fines for those letting off and selling firecrackers.
