Thank you to all the great fathers out there

Daphne Carls, of Farrarmere, writes:

I would like to thank all the fathers who are doing the best they can in difficult circumstances – all are loved and appreciated.

A year and a half ago, I watched my dad look after my sister who had a brain tumour and was bedridden.

My 73-year-old dad patiently sat by his daughter’s bed and fed her, made jokes and she would smile back in acknowledgement.

He would patiently wait until she finished her food.

My father would help pick her up [to go] into the bathroom or push her wheelchair around.

He watched his ‘little girl’ slowly lose her battle and sadly leave all of us with holes we are still trying to fill.

He still gets up at 6am to walk his other daughter to the gate when she goes to work, calls her when she’s late in the afternoon to check on her and loves his grandchildren unconditionally.

My dad is my hero and words cannot describe how grateful we all are he is in our lives.

I would like to honour all the wonderful men in my family and wish every dad a happy Father’s Day.
