Restriction is not fine

The club manager of Benoni Northerns stated that he would like to remind the public of the Ekurhuleni by-laws.

This is following a warning of a R2 000 fine that could be issued, should one take their dog(s) to the municipal sports grounds.

I find this hard to stomach as we (the tax payer) are being threatened to obey municipal by-laws yet these laws are clearly not for everyone.

Both major intersections that feed the sports grounds are occupied by loiters whom litter and urinate in public, an overnight taxi rank (corner of Brodigan and O’Reilly Merry streets) has sprung up along with beggars standing at the intersections, all of which are infringements.

It’s actually impossible to find an intersection in Benoni where you don’t find beggars (municipal by-law infringement).

Let’s not forget that we were told by a custodian of the law, Maj Gen Poobalan Subbiah, from the SAPS (BCT October 21, 2016) to “stop supporting beggars”.

He is a person who resides in Benoni and is aware of these daily acts of crime, but yet they continue.

I will continue to take my dog on a leash and I will clean up after the animal.

If a fine is imposed, I will fight it in the highest court.
