Start before it’s too late

Marcus Kneen, of Zesfontein, writes:

Approximately two years ago I wrote to your publication regarding the parlous state of Pretoria Road between Vlei and Springs roads.

The municipality commented that it would be rebuilt three years from that date.

However, I must report that the condition of the surface has exceeded parlous and is now in dire straits.

There are large sections of the road where the sub base has collapsed entirely.

Large potholes are appearing, and in this wet weather, the damaged areas will deteriorate exponentially.

This road is a most important trunk route into Benoni from the north.

It links to both the N4 and N12 as well as their hinterlands and is subject to extremely heavy traffic.

By the time this work begins, the job will have multiplied to the extent that it’s again unaffordable.

If the contract to repair the road from the Rynfield Fire Station to Vlei Road is anything to go by, we (residents) are in for a very hard time of it.
