Management needs to be addressed

Despite all the reports about the progress at the Bunny Park, I have undertaken the following effort to get some facts of my own.

Following the BCT reports over the past year, I visited the park regularly and also spoke to the people who feed around the park almost every afternoon.

The terrain within the park is in a bad state.

The walkways are not cleaned, the water is stale and I saw drowned bunnies in the water trenches, which are supposed to be covered, as bunnies cannot swim.

If they fall into the trench they die a horrible death.

There is litter everywhere; including all sorts of plastics, glass pieces and bottle caps.

The staff is either walking in slow motion or not to be seen at all.

Are we not paying them for eight hours of work?

Various volunteers have confirmed that the EMM does not feed sufficiently, so they have to step in to make sure the bunnies do not starve.

Hardly any greens are provided by the park, which I can confirm during my observations.

Reading the article by Stephen Rehbock, another upgrade is planned.

It seems to be unnecessary, as the Bunny Park has been upgraded a few years ago and looking at the park’s condition now confirms there is no maintenance.

Why is EMM not replacing the mesh fencing in order to keep the bunnies within the park?

More and more bunnies are escaping as the grass is greener on the other side, resulting in them being killed by cars.

They multiply outside the park to such an extent that at some stage residents will be fed up and take matters in their own hands.

To my knowledge, the Bokkie Park is also in a bad state.

Why is the council not taking care of its parks when the funds are available?

Get in proper management and be in the limelight for all the good reasons.
