Donations are welcome

Deacon Barbara Morrison, of Boksburg Anglican Churches, writes by email:

In the Benoni City Times of November 6 a picture of myself being handed a huge donation from the debutantes at St Dunstan’s College was featured on page 16 under the heading “Schools”.

We, as a social responsibility group from the Anglican Churches in Boksburg, have been visiting the Oliver Tambo Memorial Hospital since June 2013.

Our baby project was started after we heard that newborn babies were being discharged from the Oliver Tambo Memorial Hospital wrapped in newspapers and put into plastic shopping bags.

We had to do something to change this!

We have been trying through various donations to visit the maternity ward at least once a month since then.

The donation from St Dunstan’s College has given us the opportunity to do two visits covering at least 30 mothers per visit.

Obviously we do not reach all the moms as they do not stay in hospital for any length of time following the birth.

Donations have also been received as a result of Benoni City Times placing a covering story together with the picture.

For this I would like to thank everyone who has done so via Fabric Place in Northmead.

If anyone would like to get involved with this outreach please contact me via email on barbaraam@telkomsa.net.

We would appreciate any sort of donation if in good condition to help people less fortunate than ourselves.

Many thanks for your support.
