Get your act together

Sonia Muller, of Farrarmere, writes by email:

This is to the mayor and to all the city councillors.

Send your letters to bctletters@caxton.co.za.

We are in water shortage, but perhaps you should fix the leaking water pipes that people keep on reporting.

You should also repair the old water pipes everywhere that are rusted through.

What are we paying taxes for?

Then I see the hyacinth is back on our dams.

Please get in now to stop it spreading further.

Then I see you are cutting trees – all good and well – just remove them as you cut them.

And, if parks and recreation is looking for work, please clean all the storm water drains, as they are so packed with rubbish that even when we get rain the water will not go down and just wastes away.

Drive around and check this, as the rubbish removal trucks cannot be bothered.

Editor’s Note:

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) spokesperson Themba Gadebe replies to an email sent to him on November 3:

”The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s Environmental Resource Management Department conducts regular inspections around the four Benoni lakes.

”These lakes are among those that are given attention in view of the hyacinth infestation that occurred in the last five years.

”The current hyacinth levels in all four the lakes are still at a manageable state.

”There is, however, a re-growth of water lilies in the Middle Lake, which needs to be attended to.”
