Litter is a daily problem

''Disgusted'' writes by email:

I live in Western Extension, around the corner from Russel Street and I DAILY go out to the pavement/road outside my home and collect any litter that has been left by people who just drop it.

Russel Street shops and businesses don’t seem to take pride in the areas in front of their businesses, as there is an accumulation of litter which is disgusting.

The litter is a regular occurrence, and no one seems to want to clear it up.

I recently had occasion to speak to two individuals, separately, after I watched them throw their empty lunch packets and drinks containers out of the windows of their cars.

There are quite a few people who drive to Russel Street on the weekend, park in the parking bays outside the shops and eat their lunch, then dump their litter on the street.

This is totally unacceptable; these people obviously don’t live in the area, they come here, I assume, because of the beautiful trees offering shade.

Regardless of who dropped the litter, I believe the Russel Street businesses should put in the effort, buy a broom and some black sacks and keep their areas clean and litter-free.

Maybe the business owners don’t live in the area, I do and my environment is very important to me – please keep our suburb clean and tidy.
