Benoni, what a hoot

Mandy Botha writes by email:

Working in Benoni central is nothing but a headache.

The cause?

The constant hooting, tooting and beeping of taxi horns.

I cannot begin to imagine what the poor shop owners in Voortrekker Street must feel like after a day of working in such close proximity to the noise.

The taxi drivers, who still stop illegally to pick up their patrons, who still swerve in front of moving traffic, who still show a complete disregard to other road users, lean on their hooters from the bottom of Voortrekker Street to the top.

What image are they portraying to potential customers of the business in Benoni?

Is it not bad enough that they chase our customers away by intimidating anyone who dares to brave driving on Voortrekker Street, now they have to blare their hooters non stop.

Come on, we know you are a taxi, your terrible driving gives it away, your patrons know where to find you so what the point of hooting day in and day out.
