Lamenting the mess and degradation of our area

Unite to keep Rynfield clean writes by email:

I cannot agree with you more.

I have become so despondent with the mess and general degradation of our area.

It seems that some residents have no pride in their homes.

I use Van Rooyen Street on a daily basis and it is terrible, right from the corner of Benoni Country Club and the house on the other side which has had plyboard up as a wall for months now and continues down the street with litter, garden and building rubble lying on the BCC verge for months on end and rubbish bags being put out on the same verge any day of the week regardless of when “rubbish day” is.

Many homes take much care in maintaining a beautiful garden and verge but others make no effort at all and I am afraid that the road is being damaged by the grass which is allowed to spread from the verges into the road (especially bad is the area outside the Girl Guides club).

In addition to being aesthetically unpleasing, the unkempt verges and roadsides make it dangerous for the considerable number of pedestrians using Van Rooyen Street as they have no option but to walk quite far into the road.

Other terrible areas are opposite the Bunny Park and the intersection of Fifth Avenue, Morris and Snake roads.

Let’s stand up and make our environment beautiful and something to be proud of and protect the value of our properties.
