Kids Haven says thanks

Susan Daly, coordinator: fundraising Kids Haven writes by email:

Please may I ask that you consider publishing our note of thanks to members of the local community who come out in support of the children at Kids Haven.

2014 has been a good but challenging year and we ended the year with 182 children living in care in our two facilities; our youngest at just four years old and a handful of young adults on the cusp of independence, along with another 120 individuals, families and youth receiving services through our pre-care and aftercare activities.

Kids Haven would not be able to meet the needs of the children without the significant support of the local community.

We have received all sorts of donations this past year – financial, food, clothing – wonderful resources that we have been able to use purposefully to cover all our requirements.

Some of the most important donations have been in time.

Several dedicated volunteers assist with the afternoon homework programme and with activities at our community preschool and in the bridging school programme, while others hosted fun activities with our children on volunteer days.

One of our long-standing local donors had this to say:

“The team at Nylacast SA (Pty) Ltd would like to thank Kids Haven and all of their staff for the fantastic work they do to ensure better futures for the youth of today.

“We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Kids Haven and take pride in being a

sponsor and making a difference in the lives of less fortunate children”.

I have attached a photograph of our child Tshiamo who attends a local school through the support of Nylacast SA; she is seen here with Catherine Molefe and

Elzabe Koortzen from the company.

Kids Haven remains open every day all year.

Our main office can be contacted at 011 421 4222 or people can contact our donation centre on 011 706 7959 to arrange for Kids Haven to collect any donations that they may have.

If any community member is concerned about the welfare of a child or needs assistance with a child on the streets, please call our main office any time.

We would like to thank the editorial staff at the Benoni City Times for running many articles and stories about our children and our activities this year.

Thank you for the support that you provide to keep our organisation in the minds of the community.
