Thanks for help at Hospice

Denise Heatlie writes by email:

Upon reading the article covering our 50th wedding anniversary which included our work in the foundation of Hospice East Rand, we would like to give recognition to the initial team members who joined us in the project, being the late Yvonne Pinker, Sr Les Kirkby; Sr Janet Frohlich; as well as the initial support given by the Benoni Van Ryn Rotary Club.

It is many years that we left the organisation and, upon a recent visit to Hospice to support a friend whose husband was in the in-patient unit, I again experienced the amazing care, comfort and warmth of the staff who attended to my friend, her daughter and her husband who passed away that evening. There was even “comfort” from Sam, the resident cat at Hospice, who quietly sat and rubbed against them while we sat out in the garden.

Being “cat people” they said how comforting it was to also feel the warmth from Sam.

Actually, Sam adopted us about five years ago and for the last year or more he decided to go and live at Hospice just down the road from our house.

He has a unique character in that he makes himself very much at home with people and we are happy that he fulfills such a caring function there, as reported by the office staff and many others who have had a family member in the care of Hospice.

In short, Hospice East Rand is the place to be for anyone in need of the care and support they offer to people with a life threatening illness, whether it be for home care or in-patient care.
