Do not forget to do your tax returns

If you are anything like me, you have left your Sars tax returns admin till the last minute.

Luckily there is still time for non-provisional taxpayers who have until Friday, November 21, to submit tax returns electronically.

The deadline for posting it or dropping it off in a Sars drop box was September 26.

If you are a provisional taxpayer who uses eFiling, the closing date is January 30.

Do not shoot yourself in the foot by submitting yours late and having to pay penalties and interest.

You would also not want to miss out if the odds are on your side and you could get a little something back.

Here are a few safety tips to follow, provided by Sars, when doing your tax returns:

  • Sars will never ask for your banking or personal details in any communication that you receive via post, email, phone or SMS.
  • Sars would not send you hyperlinks to other websites – even those of banks.
  • Top Tip: beware of people who offer to complete your tax return for you and who promise they can get you a refund.

The local Sars branch is situated at 65 Howard Avenue, Benoni CBD.

Sars eFiling can be done at https://www.sarsefiling.co.za/.

Let’s all be good law-abiding citizens and get it done this week.TB.
