Willowmoore washout disappoints

Quinton writes by email:

Woke up this morning (Sunday, October 19) with two excited kids; we were going to the cricket at Willowmoore Park.

A day game does not happen often in Benoni and the family were really happy.

Got there, met some friends and started to enjoy the game, only to have the match abandoned after 15 overs due to a dangerous pitch.

What a huge disappointed.

The Easterns Cricket Board, or whoever is in charge, have known about this game for many months, yet they cannot get a pitch ready on time.

This is unacceptable. It is meant to be an international ground, surely there are standards that must be adhered to?Why was the pitch not looked at ages ago and, if there was a problem, sorted out?

They always moan that nobody comes and watches, yet they can never seem to get the score board to work for a whole game and the pitch is often not up to scratch. In this case it was so bad it had to be abandoned.

To get our money back was also a mission; the staff were rude and acted as if they were doing us a favour (no money was returned for parking) what a disgrace.

The people next to us had travelled from Vereeniging to come and watch.

I feel an apology and, more importantly, an explanation about what happened and why the pitch is so bad is the least the Easterns Cricket Board owes the public.

The people leaving the grounds were all saying that they will not support this ground again.

I look forward to a response from them — hopefully.
