Bills for no service must still be paid

Jolanda Ehlers writes by email:

Every day we hear about the water crisis, yet I have been struggling since July 2014 to have a water leak resolved.

In July, I logged the call on the Ekurhuleni web site and received no response.

I then resolved to log the same incident with the call centre.

When I phoned to follow up I was told that it had been resolved.

I advised that it had not and given another service request number.

When I phoned again, I was once again told that it was resolved, when it was not.

They wanted to give me a new service request number because this one was “old”, but I refused.

I spoke to the DA councillor Gerrie Kriek, as well as to Hennie Kirsten at Ekurhuleni, twice, but the matter is still not resolved.

Apparently this is a small problem compared to other leaks that have to be repaired.

I’m told that I’m not paying for this water leak, yet my water usage bill went up from average of R200 per month to over R1 000.

And, to top it all, because we are not getting our accounts in the mail, I’m now getting “Letters of Demand” pushed into my gate — for which I must pay a “legal fee” of R100 — to pay the “outstanding” account within seven days for this water bill.

Sadly, everywhere I turn I hit a brick wall and still end up paying the excessive water bill.

Guess the same will happen when the road eventually caves in.

So much for living in a democratic country – nobody cares as long as the bills for no service are paid!
